EXTEND PERIOD FOR BVR EXHIBITION

The Conservative Alliance Network (CAN) regrets the widespread complains and problems that has characterized the Biometric Voter Register Exhibition in parts of the country. There have been reports of missing registers, missing names in the register, wrong polling station coding etc.

For instance on the 3rd of September, 2012 at Hedonits Centre at Ayigya and Silicon Centre at Kentinkrono in Kumasi, there were reports of over two-thirds of registered people who could not find their names on the list. As of now, registration booklet is not available for registered voters to verify their registration at Awahem in the Effiduase-Asokore constituency. Even though the Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission promised the anomaly will be rectified, we believe time is lost.

We also acknowledge the SMS system put in place to check the details. However, we are also not oblivious of the caution by the Electoral Commissioner Dr. Kwadjo Afari Gyan that the system is not 100% guaranteed.

To ensure many electorates are not disenfranchised from taking part in the December 7 parliamentary and presidential elections, the Conservative Alliance Network wishes to call on the Electoral Commission to extend the exhibition exercise. An extension will give ample time for those affected by the anomalies to check their details.

Thank you.
