He said, “Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who has an indelible impression on world history and was highly shown as the topmost African personality of the 20th century at the end of the last millennium” could never be forgotten for his role in getting independence for Ghana.

President Mills was speaking at this years Independence parade in Accra, under the theme, Unity and Peace, Pillars for National Development”.

The president said, the quality of Ghana’s human resources alone exemplified the country’s true potentials and that everywhere in the world the creativity, honesty and professional expertise of the Ghanaian have never been misplaced.

“Across the world, when it comes to democracy and political stability, we stand tall, and we should be proud of this enviable fame”.

On the youth, he said, his government will do everything possible to make sure that Ghana remains a haven for peace and unity.

“This administration does not intend to parade scape-goats, nor seek refuge in excuses. We will look forward on the things that matter and which will enable the economy to recover some degree of stability.

He said, this would be done in collaboration with organized technocrats, and the business community and that “we count on the good will and understanding of all Ghanaians, as we engage each other in a collaborative effort to build the kind of better Ghana that we all want”.

President Mills reiterated that the goal of his administration was to strengthen Ghana’s position as a magnet for investment in productive ventures and to create jobs for the youth.

"And to invest in infrastructure, better health care system that provides for all, and quality teachers in highly improved schools who will selflessly teach the future generation with ease," he continued.

He said providing good drinking water for the people and making Ghana a safer place for the citizenry was the NDC’s government priority.

The President said, “We must reflect on the legacies that our fore bearers bequeath to us”, adding that Ghanaians ought to be committed to adding more to the legacy for the next generation and to help his government build a better Ghana for all.
