Dr Apraku Primes Himself as Dr Nduom Steps into CPP Presidential Race
By Kweku Asare, ACCRA

Accra, August 11, 2007, Ghanadot.com - Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, one of 22 aspirants to the ruling New Patriotic Party Presidential candidacy has declared himself a leading contender, arguing that he certainly would emerge flag bearer in the December Delegates Congress of the party.

He also challenged arguments against him that he is not generally counted among the favourites in the party.

Dr Apraku, a former economist of the World Bank, debunked allegations against him as having lost steam, saying it was a ploy to play down his chances. Dr Apraku, is currently outside the country canvassing the support of diasporan members of the party.

On his real chances, the former Minister of Regional Cooperation and NEPAD said: "I am ahead of all of the aspirants; you wait and see and you will see the results when the time comes," he said.

Asked why he is often left out in media analysis even though he had once contested the party’s flagbearership and losing to President Kufuor, Dr Apraku, noted that the analysts were 'biased’ in their assessment and the reports are "not consistent with what is on the ground."

Meanwhile, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, former Minister of Public Sector Reform has declared his intention to contest the flagbearership of the Convention People’s Party, which comes off later in the year.

Speaking to journalists, Dr Nduom said it was an opportunity to serve the nation having come to know that he had a huge following that was capable of winning him the CPP Leadership and consequently the Presidency.

Dr Nduom is an entrepreneur, former Africa, Middle East Representative of Delloit and Touche, great public speaker, investment consultant and former Minister of Energy and Regional Cooperation as well as Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission.
