Hearts begin resurgence
Accra, March 19, Ghanadot/GNA –
Defending league champions, Accra Hearts of Oak revived
their fortunes with a surprise 3-0 win over Wa All Stars in
their outstanding Week 14 clash of the Onetouch premiership
at the Ohene Djan Stadium on Wednesday.
A goal each from Ekow Ghansah and youngster Edward Adjaglo
coupled with an own-goal by Gashir Akuffo were enough to
move the Phobians up the ladder.
Hearts’ abysmal performance this season ensured that not
many of their faithful fans turned out for the game, which
rather produced their biggest win in 15 weeks.
Israeli-born trainer Eyal Lachman paired petit midfielder
Tawrik Djibril and Kofi Abanga in the middle and it paid off
as the duo were the architects of all forays by the
homesters.
On the quarter-hour mark, Ghansah broke the deadlock with a
connecting header from a fine cross by Adjaglo, who had
profited from one of Abanga’s incisive passes.
The Phobians kept their dominance and nearly doubled the
lead four minutes before half time, but Bernard Don Bortey
headed wide with only goalkeeper Robert Adabou at his mercy.
Hearts began the second half on a more purposeful note and
two minutes on, Adjaglo consolidated his side’s lead by
slotting home from a goal mouth melee, after a Bortey
free-kick had kept the visitor’s goal area boiling.
The defending league champions cruising to their fourth
victory of the season had Akuffo to thank to seal their day
with an own goal.
Akuffo turned in a cross from Hearts Adjaglo into his own
net after Bortey closed in on him after the goalie was
displaced nine minutes after the hour mark.
All Stars led in attack by Ishmael Fridos and Raphael Okyere
fought back to reduce the tally but their efforts proved
fruitless.
Adjaglo who is in his second season with the Phobians was
voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match.
