Ghana to host Junior Athletics
Championship
Accra, April 2, Ghanadot/GNA - The
Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has approached
Ghana to host the 2010 Junior Athletics Championship.
Sandy Osei-Agyeman, Chairman of the Ghana Athletics
Association (GAA) told GNA Sports that the continental body
had asked Ghana to explore the possibility of hosting the
biennial event.
He said his outfit would officially inform the Ministry of
Education, Science and Sports to find out the feasibility of
hosting the championship, which he believes would be crucial
to the development of athletics in the country.
“It will be a fine opportunity to host such an event because
it will provide the platform to unearth talents that will go
a long way to benefit the country.
“The Vida Anim’s all came through such a system and one
cannot discard the potential of discovering several other
talents.”
Ghana would have to provide warm up tracks to fully pass as
host of the championship which was last held in Burkina
Faso.
“We already have in place standard tartan tracks and will
have to build warm-up tracks to conclude the entire
requirement for such events.”
He told GNA Sports if giving the nod, Ghana would also have
to create call-rooms plus the warm-up tracks for the
successful hosting of the championship.
