Another FIFA project for Ghana
Abidjan, April 24, Ghanadot/GNA –
Ghana is set to benefit from a new project to be funded by
the world soccer governing body, Federation of International
Football Federation. (FIFA).
The project dubbed “Football for Hope” is one of the
initiatives by FIFA towards developing football across
globe.
Samspon Kablan, FIFA Goal Project Development Officer in
charge of West Africa told the GNA Sports in Abidjan on
Thursday that the objective of the project was to support
and sustain social and human development programs in the
area and to promote peace and children’s right, with
emphasis on education, health, equality, and social
integration.
He disclosed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had
opted for Sekondi as the centre for the “Football for Hope”
project.
The centre, which will boast of facilities such as football
pitches, classrooms and healthcare facilities, will provide
the youth a recreational centre where they can also have
access to counseling, health and educational services.
Kablan added that the project, which will epitomize football
as a vehicle for social development, will be funded by the
world soccer governing body.
The FIFA Development Officer said the project would be
officially launched in Accra later this week by a delegation
from the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
Ghana and Mali are the first African beneficiaries of this
project.
This will be the third FIFA sponsored project for Ghana
after the FIFA Goal Project I and II. The Goal I is the
Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram while the
ultra-modern secretariat of the GFA is the other.
FIFA funded both projects to the tune of about $400,000
each.
