Black Queens to play in WAFU tourney
By Awudu Salami Sule, Ghanadot

Accra, Juky 17, Ghanadot - Ghana's national female team, the Black Queens have been invited to play in the inaugural West Africa Football Union (WAFU) championship which begins in August 15,2009 at Abuja in Nigeria.

Seven West African countries and one nation from East Africa (Tanzania) will take part in the competition.

The Black Queens will begin their campaign in Group B against Sierra Leone before playing Tanzania and Mali.

Hosts Nigeria are in Group A together with Senegal, Guinea and Gambia.
The two top sides from each Group qualify for the semi-finals.

For the first time in the history of female football competition on the African continent, Ghana failed to go beyond the Group stage at the last African Women's Championship in Equatorial Guinea.

It is therefore the hope of many Ghanaians that the team excel in the maiden competition regional championships.
