BSA tourney slated for August

Accra, July 23, Ghanadot - The African Baseball and Softball Association (ABSA) 2nd ECOWAS title and junior league baseball and softball competition has been slated for August 17 2009.


The five-day tournament which will feature boys under 12 and girls under 14 will be hosted by Cote D' Ivoire.


The tournament will feature teams from West Africa.


Rev Albert Ocran, chairman of Ghana Baseball and Softball Association (GHABSA) in an interview said the Ghanaian team has begin a preparation for the competition.


He said, the players were selected after a vigorous justifier and are expected to form a strong team represent Ghana.


He revealed further that, so far 40 players made up of boys and girls have been selected for camping, out of the number, 12 will be selected in each category for the tournament.


Rev Ocran said, presently the association is cash trapped and it is affecting the camping plans.


He noted that most funds for baseball activities had been raised from individual and corporate bodies saying, "with the government plans of supporting the lesser known sports, I hope baseball will be brought on board".
