Three-Year SHS programme will start next year – Tettey-Enyo

Accra, Sept. 2, Ghanadot/GNA – Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education, on Tuesday announced that the three year Senior High School (SHS) programme will begin in 2010/2011 academic year.

Those entering SHS this year will, therefore, pursue a four-year programme while government deals with the legal requirements which includes amending a section of the education act which provides for a four-year SHS education.

At a press conference to respond to some issues in the educational sector, the Minister said: “We wish to assure all of you that before the commencement of the 2010/2011 academic year all the requirements will be put in place to address the challenges associated with the changeover.”

Mr Tettey-Enyo said following Cabinet’s approval of the reversal of the duration of the SHS from four years to three years, the sector Ministry had to put in place the necessary facilities such as additional classrooms, laboratories and textbooks and revise the syllabuses in line with the three year programme.
