Juaso District Hospital to be upgraded

Juaso (Ash), July 24, Ghanadot/GNA– The Juaso District Hospital in the Asante-Akim South District is to be upgraded to provide improved and quality health care for the people.

Under the exercise, new facilities and expertise would be provided to address maternal and child morbidity in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

An emergency unit would also be created to help reduce referrals to other health facilities as well as minimize the attendance of hospitals outside the district by residents.
To this end, specialized doctors and nurses are currently undergoing training to enable them handle cases professionally.

Mr Abdul Karim Boakye-Yiadom, the District Chief Executive, who disclosed this at a meeting with chiefs in the Asante-Akim South District at Juaso, said there was the need to upgrade the hospital to provide the needed health services for the people, since it was the major health facility in the district.

He said the creation of an emergency unit at the hospital was imperative considering the rate of road accidents between Yawkwei and Dadieso on the Kumasi-Accra highway.

The DCE further noted that the Assembly was collaborating with Unite for Sight (UFS), a United States (US) based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) to provide eye care services at the hospital.

Mrs Gifty Ohene-Konadu, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, said government was committed to the welfare of Ghanaians and would continue to pursue policies that mitigate the hardship of the people.

She said development was a gradual process and urged Ghanaians to exercise restraint for government to roll out its programmes according to its development agenda.

The MP commended chiefs for their role in nation building and called for collaboration between them and government to ensure speedy development.
