Take oral health seriously

Accra, Nov. 25, Ghanadot/GNA - Dr Joe Eyison, Coordinator, Oral Health Training Programme of the Rural Health School, Kintampo, on Tuesday advised Ghanaians to take personal hygiene seriously to save the country the numerous health problems.

He noted that oral health in particular had become a matter of concern and called for the use of good dental products, regular check-ups as well as regular change of brushes to ensure healthy gums and tooth.

Dr. Eyison was speaking during a screening and education programme organised for over 500 children drawn from the Adabraka cluster of schools as part of activities marking Oral and Child Week celebration of the Ghana Health Service.

He said neglect of basic health practices like brushing of the teeth, regular baths and wearing of clean underwear was affecting the health and social well-being of most children, especially in the rural areas and called on parents to be particular about the needs of their children.

Dr. Eyison warned against too much sweet as it contributed to diseases such as diabetes, tooth and gum decay.

He said teachers were also being trained to monitor the oral health of children and educate them on good environmental practices.

Mrs. Jacqeline Sory, Circuit Supervisor, Adabraka Cluster of Schools, lauded the initiative and called for the re-introduction of health check in schools.
