About 173,000 clients benefit from Techiman Municipal Mutual Health Insurance Scheme

Techiman(BA), Sept. 06, Ghanadot/GNA - The management of Techiman Municipal Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has so far paid about GH¢1,270,000 as claims to 173,000 beneficiaries this year as against GH¢650,000 for 98,192 beneficiaries last year.

Mr Prince Yaw Donyina, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive announced this at the second ordinary meeting of the fifth session of the assembly at Techiman.

He said with the remarkable improvement in the registration and payment of claims, the scheme could be sustained and urged management of the scheme to intensify education to ensure more clients registered.

Mr Donyina noted that there had been an improvement in waste management in the municipality with the recruitment of more sanitation guards and to maintain its status as the cleanest municipality in the region and save cost, the assembly would purchase two new trucks for waste evacuation.

He said government through HIPC projects had allocated GH¢ 250,000 for the naming of streets and house numbering exercises in the municipality.

Mr Donyina appealed to the assembly members to redouble their efforts in sensitising the people to achieve the assembly's target of more than GH¢500,000 in revenue generation this year.

He said the assembly and the municipal directorate of education received GH¢140,000 as capitation grant for 2005/2006 and by the end of August this year GH¢92,115 in two tranches had been received.

Mr Kofi Asamoah Abanaba, Presiding Member, urged the members to forge ahead in unity to develop the municipality.

Mr J. B. Tuoyire, Techiman Municipal Co-ordinating Director, called on heads of departments to regularly attend assembly meetings to answer questions on issues relating to their departments.

Mr Alex Kyeremeh, Member of Parliament for Techiman North and Mr Addai Simons, Member of Parliament Techiman South attended the meeting.
