STATEMENT PRESENTED BY AFAG TO THE PEOPLE OF GHANA

Fellow Ghanaians, today we are gathered here to bring to your attention the feeling of mass injustice, the levels of unprecedented hardship and the insensitivity of the Government which has created despondency in the country.

As a group, it has always been our humble opinion that governments are instituted for the welfare of the masses. Events in the past three years have however proven otherwise. Today whiles the masses live in difficult economic times, members of the Mills -Mahama administration continuously display opulence and waste.
Fellow Ghanaians, never in the history of this country have we witnessed such spate of labor agitation and unrest, levels of insecurity, graduate unemployment and record breaking levels of corruption.

But in the midst of all these, what is appalling is the fact that, from President Mills down to the last person in the NDC, we are forced to accept that life under the Mills-Mahama government is much better than any other Government in our history as a country.

Fellow countrymen, the obvious fact is that if there is indeed a better Ghana, then it is being felt by only the few ‘Greedy Bastards’ who are enjoying the largesse of state and profiting from the massive corruption which has been institutionalized by the Mills/Mahama government. Indeed one of the clearest examples is the Woyome scandal, where Woyome, who had no contract with government, was able to cause government to pay him a whooping GHC58 million (C580.0 BN) of the tax payers money. It should be noted that in the 2012 fiscal year none of the social intervention programs of government attracted an allocation of more than GHC 50million. For the records, SADA attracted GH 30.0million, Capitation Grant GHC 25.0million, schools under trees GH28million and MASLOC GH35. The loss of GH58.0million is therefore a very serious matter It is however interesting to note that, Martin Amidu, the former Attorney General who detected what has come to be known as ‘gargantuan crime’ against the state and initiated processes to retrieve the money was fired by the president for alleged misconduct, whiles the collaborators of Woyome still remain at post. This has raised several questions about the commitment of the president to the fight against corruption.
Another pointer is the construction of a 20.0million dollar multi-purpose office complex at Adabraka. Ladies and Gentlemen, till date, the NDC has failed to provide any credible source of funding for the project.

Again, the refusal of government to uphold a court order to remove illegal margins on the pricing of petroleum products which has been charged for the past three years and has accrued a whooping GH 690 million is testament of government’s lack of commitment to cushioning the masses. Against the non compliance of the ruling, government still went ahead to increase petroleum products in December.

Finally AFAG demands of Mr. Kwame Peprah Board Chairman of SSNIT to come clean in the role he played in divesting 61.1% of SSNIT shares in The Trust Bank. AFAG is therefore giving him a two week ultimatum to come out or be exposed.
