Indiana University students visit
Ghana

Accra, May 21, Ghanadot - Some
students of Indiana University in the United States of
America are in Ghana to tour some of the historical sites in
the country and also learn more about its culture. The tour
according to the visiting students is in relation to their
course of study at the university.
As part of the tour, the students visited the Odweanoma
mountain at Kwahu Atibie in the Eastern Region and they took
the opportunity to learn more about slave trade that took
place in the area as some of the slaves were reported to
have been kept in some of the caves in the Odweanoma
mountain.

They also visited the palace of the Chief of Kwahu Tafo,
Nana Ameyaw Djansi Amah III and durbar was organised in
their honour where they had real encounter with the Ghanaian
culture.The Chief of Kwahu Tafo explained to the visiting
students chieftaincy issues in Ghana and stressed more on
Ghanaian culture and its positive
effect on Ghanaians.
The visiting students had the opportunity of visiting the
funeral grounds at Kwahu Atibie to learn how Ghanaians
performed funerals.The group uses the opportunity to learn
and dance some of the local funeral songs.

In an interview with the leader of the students group, Dr
Virginia M. Blanc who is the Interim Director at Indiana
Unversity U.S.A, she stated that, the purpose of the visit
was to enable the students learn more about Ghanaian culture
and some of its historical sites.
Dr Virginia said, their visit was to also learn about slave
trade in Ghana and how it affected the African diaspora
around the world especially the United States of America.
Mr Philip A. Seabrook, the assistant vice president of
Pre-collegiate Iniatives for his part intimated that their
visit was not only to learn but to also do a charitable
work. As part of their charitable work, the visiting
students have donated two computers to Bepong Senior High
school and an undisclosed amount of money to help improve
studies in the school.
The Kwahu South District Chief Executive who took the
visiting students to tour the area declared the preparedness
of his outfit to rehabilitate the Odwaenoma tourist centre
to attract tourists to the area which he said abounds with
tourist sites.
He revealed, the Odweanoma mountain would become one of the
biggest tourist sites in the country if the needed facelift
was given and promised to provide the facelift.
Before filing this report, the visiting students from the
Indiana University, U.S.A are yet to visit other tourist
sites at Akosombo, Paga, Bolgatanga, Tamale, Wa and Takyiman
and they are to spend one month in Ghana.
