61 parcels of
cocaine arrest at Tema Habour

Accra, May 20, Ghanadot - A
combined team of personnel from the Tema Regional Police
Command, National Security, Customs, Excise & Preventive
Service (CEPS), Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) and security
department of the Ghana Ports & Harbours Authority (GPHA)
has taken into custody 61
parcels of cocaine at the Tema Port.
The cocaine, weighing 71.45 kilogrammes arrived at the Tema
port on board a vessel carrying chewing gum consignment from
Equador.
The ‘goods’ which was stopped at
the gate of the Gateway Services Limited (GSL) were packed
like Bibles in two leather hand
bags (black and blue) last Tuesday at about 2:00pm.
The street value of the ‘goods’ was not available at the
time of filing this report.
The goods was concealed in a Maersk
line container onboard a long articulator truck with
registration number, GR 9241 A enroute into the country.
The agent, who is believed to be a staff of Seko Agency, the
driver of the long vehicle and his mate are presently in
police custody, however, the importer one Augustina Abu
International is presently at large.
Later, two other were arrested at Dansoman and Amasaman.
Ghanadot sources at the port said
that the National Security agents
got wind of the goods
arrival on board the
vessel from Equador and laid
ambush for it.
Our source said on arrival at the port last Wednesday at
around 2:00pm, the goods were detected by the scan after
which it was tested in the presence of team and proved that
it was indeed cocaine.
The Tema Regional Crime Officer, Assistant Commissioner of
Police (ACP) Joshua Dogbeda confirmed the arrest but
directed this reporter to talk to officials at the NACOB
headquarters in Accra.
