Hundreds at AFAG demo to demand good governance
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, August 5, Ghanadot - Hundreds of Ghanaians joined members of the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), Tuesday morning to demonstrate against what they said are injustices and harsh living conditions under the Atta Mills administration.

Clad in anything red, the demonstrators converged at the Holy Gardens at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, around 6 am, before finally taking to the streets at about 9:30am.

They carried placards with inscriptions such as: ‘If Ghana is broke, fix it’; 'who is ruling: Is it Atta or Rawlings?’; ‘Sakawa president’; ‘No money in our pockets’; ‘No employment for two years, Atta why?’, ‘The youth need jobs, stop the killer loans’, ‘Atta 419”, ‘School fees too unbearable why?’ and ‘Where is the I care for you?’, among others.

Security officers from the Ghana Police Service gave maximum security to all the demonstrators making sure that the peace of the nation was not disturbed.

Among the leadership of the organisers were, Daniel Marfo Ofori-Atta, Kwabena Bomfeh, Samuel Awuku, Titus Glover and John Boadu, who took turns to address the packed crowd.

Mr. Daniel Marfo Ofori-Atta a member of AFAG said government was persecuting members of the opposition, particularly the NPP against vows by the president to be father of all, and also deceiving Ghanaians on promises of reducing fuel prices.

According to him, the NDC government, about seven months in office, has failed to live up to its campaign promises and pledges as contained in the party’s manifesto, causing depreciating living conditions of the ordinary Ghanaian.

The group called on Ghanaians to keep the NDC government in check by demanding from the Mills administration accountability and transparency at all times.
