New police chief appointed - Act. IGP Mills Robertson  sidelined

Accra, May 15, Ghanadot - In consultation with the Council of State of Ghana, President John Evans Atta Mills has appointed Mr. Paul Tawiah Quaye as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) of the Republic of Ghana, with immediate effect.

The new police chief, Mr. Paul Tawiah Quaye, born 6th May, 1953, was commissioned Assistant Superintendent of Police into the police service in 1980.

The acting IGP, Mrs. Elizabeth Mills – Robertson was told of the decision to appoint Mr. Quaye the new police chief on Friday, May 14, 2009.

A statement released by presidential spokesperson, Mahama Ayariga, said Mrs. Mills-Robertson met with the president on the same day of the new appointment and at which time he thanked her for her dedicated and long service to the nation.

Mrs. Mills-Robertson, at the same time, received news of her new appointment as an ambassador designate.  The president hoped that she will continue to display her sterling qualities in her new assignment.

The new IGP, Mr. Quaye has a Bachelor of Science  in Computer Science and an Executive MBA in Human Resource Management degrees. He rose to the rank of Commissioner of Police in 2002.  He was, until his appointment, the Commissioner-in Charge of Strategic Direction and Monitoring of the Ghana Police Service.

He was also, according to the Daily Graphic, "the Commander responsible for Volta and Upper East regions."
