Accra, Aug 26, Ghanadot - The
General Secretary of the main opposition political party,
the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Ntow, has blamed
the police in yesterday’s incident that claimed 3 lives
at Agbogbloshie.
He stressed that “no political party should be blamed for
the incidence since it was a security matter.”
In an interview on Peace FM, Nana Ohene Ntow, revealed that
“the police have openly acknowledged they are aware of
criminal dens in Agbogbloshie,” but has not been effective
in tracking the criminals down.
He also blamed the police for the delays in
making public, findings of earlier investigations into
unwarranted attacks on civilians at
Agbogbloshie.
According to him, prior to the 2008 Elections, a similar
incident occurred in the same locality, which resulted in
the death of some people, but the police concluded that it
was a chieftaincy issue, even though everything pointed out
to the contrary, that it was a politically motivated attack.
The Deputy National Organiser of the ruling National
Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan, on his part
lamented over the constant pointing of accusing fingers at
politicians, especially members of the NPP and NDC, whenever
there is a clash between any two factions in the country.
Though disappointed at how things were managed at the area,
he suggested a meeting with representatives of both parties
for “a peace talk” since there is an upcoming bye-election
in the Northern Region.
To him,“This is a big worry, because there is an impending
by-election at Chereponi and these clashes can result in a
bloodshed.”
