Prez Mills to tackle problems in the educational sector
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, Feb 20, Ghanadot - President John Evans Atta Mills have assured that his administration would take on all problems which has hindered effective education delivery in the country. He noted that concrete and tangible proposals from the national forum, about to be established,  would guarantee efficient second cycle education.

He said the national forum would deliberate the implementation of the current education policy which has increased second cycle education to four years.

It would be recalled that the NDC during its campaign pledged to reduce the duration of Senior High School education to three years if voted into power.  The president is in the process of making that promise come true.

President Mills promised that the school feeding programme, which was initiated by the Kufuor administration, would be rejuvenated to benefit the most deprived in the society.

He pledged government’s continued support for tertiary education and expressed the hope that the private sector will assist in that undertaking.

“Government would ensure a proper utilisation and accounting of the GETFund,” he said, adding that allowances of teachers would be paid promptly.

On Sports, President Mills promised his undaunted wish to develop the 'lesser known sports'.

President Mills, being a hockey player and fanatic, said his administration would assist the Ghana Hockey Association in the organisation of the Hockey Nations Cup in Ghana later in the year.
