NPP closes proposals for the amendment of the party’s constitution
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, April 15, Ghanadot - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has closed the submission of proposals for the amendment of the party’s constitution.

As the party prepares for its National Conference in May of 2009, there have been calls for the expansion of the electoral college of the party.

The conference will witness the amendment of portions of the party’s constitution especially the part governing the election of both regional and national executives of the party.

Some persons within the party have raised questions about the transparency of the process questioning the integrity and democratic credentials of the process.

In an interview on Citi FM, Director of Communications of the NPP, Kweku Kwarteng said “the very people who submitted the proposals would be voting on it at the conference” and such all such assertions were misplaced”.

He added that the committee was only responsible for collecting the proposals and “present them for conference to make a decision”.

Mr. Kwarteng however said it was the duty of the lawyers to collate the proposal after which they will be sent to the constituencies
