Massive turn-out at Kwahu Easter celebrations
By Abdul Salam Sule

Accra, April 13, Ghanadot - To the people of Kwahu in the Eastern Region, Easter is a festival that js celebrated amidst pomp and pageantry. Thus, from Friday April 10, when the celebration started, residents in the various towns on the Kwahu ridge saw massive increases in population and it was all about Easter.

At Kwahu Obomeng for instance, thousands of people besieged the main road and danced to music from giant speakers placed by bar operators. They were also live programmes which were organised by some of the renowned radio stations in the country and prominent musicians performed to the delight of the celebrants.

No wonder the various chiefs in the area capitalised on the ocassion to organise fund raising events to help finance their projects.
Many companies also used the occasion to market their products and this year was no exception.

However, past Easter celebrations left in its wake ugly incidents such as road accidents, stealing and sometimes murder. Ghanadot found out that, this year's celebration was peaceful as the rate of accidents was reduced.

Also crime rate was also low compared to past years as no death due to crime was recorded this year, compare to last year when one person was killed.

The police has therefore been commended by the people for dispatching their personnel to all the flash points in the area hence, the reduction in crime rate.

In an interview with GhanaDot, Mr Yussif Issa said, though he was a Muslim, he was touched by the way the people in the area celebrated the Easter and that was why he traveled far away from Tamale to the Kwahu ridge to celebrate the occasion.

"Easter without Kwahu is indeed not Easter", he observed.
