Ayariga Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, May 11, Ghanadot - The
Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Mahama Ayariga
says that the trip by President John Evans Atta Mills to
the United Kingdom would bring immense benefits to Ghana; adding
that the response the president had from the British government
in supporting Ghana economically is something Ghanaians should
be happy about.
Mahama Ayariga says whilst exploring innovative ways of
improving on bilateral relations with the United Kingdom,
President Mills also invited investors to turn their radar
towards Ghana.
He further revealed that following discussions, some Ghanaian
Ministers are expected to embark on follow up missions.
Prominent amongst them is the Interior Minister who is expected
to follow up on ways to improve the nation’s security apparatus
all aimed at curtailing the work of drug barons and drug
traffickers.
According to him, there were discussions on trade and
investments, bilateral cooperation in the areas of fighting
crime, cross border and especially drug trafficking.
Mr. Ayariga disclosed that the President also met with investors
to ‘sell ‘Ghana and invite them to come and invest in the
country.
He said though the trip has been a successful one, there has
been many media reports centred on the cost and size of the
delegation that escorted the President to the trip.
Mr. Ayariga said it is unfortuate that Ghanaians have placed
more importance on the cost rather than the benefits the country
would derive from the trip.
He explained that the total cost of the trip was funded by the
British government and included the President, First lady and
ten other government officials including the Energy, Finance,
Foreign Affairs and Trade ministers.
According to him, the cost of the slim security detail and the
members of the media were those fundede by Ghana government.
Mr. Ayariga pointed out that size of the delegation was not more
than twenty seven adding that for a trip of such enormous
significance it was prudent of government to send such a small
group of people.
