Women are the bedrock of national stability-Minister Audrey Micah,
Ghanadot
Accra, May 11, Ghanadot -
The Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, Akua Sena
Dansua has stated in an interview with GhanaDot that women all
over the world contribute immensely towards the stability,
development and economic process of the country.
She said women’s participation in the development process at all
levels of decision making is crucial for good governance and
national development.
According to her, as a nation "our quest for accelerated
socio-economic development, wealth creation and poverty
reduction will be seriously harmed without the involvement and
empowerment of women, especially the rural women"
"The world will be running on only one leg, if we continue to
limit the opportunities for women to be active participants for
the development process.
"We cannot guarantee a good future for the nation without making
the welfare, development, protection and participation of our
women and children a priority concern."
Hon. Sena Dansua hinted that the most developed nations are
those which cherish and place the highest premium on its women
and children, adding that for Ghana to be able to achieve that
her, ministry will need more supports from their developed
partners.
The minister called on parents to be vigilant in protecting
their children from harm, adding that most children who are
often taken are from their parents are not really given the
genuine truth of where they are going.
She urged parents not to give their children to anyone who comes
to them with fake promises, adding that parents and guardians
must resist and ensure that their children do not migrate to the
south.
According to the minister, though the ministry has numerous
challenges, "we will be embarking on the rehabilitation, return
and reintegration of 1000 trafficked children in their
communities of origin."
The ministry according to her, will continue to reduce poverty
levels of parents and guardians of trafficked victims and
provide them micro credit assistance, engage them in community
projects so that parents can take care of their children and
raise their standard of living.
