Ghanaian faces
death sentence in Libya
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, June
26, Ghanadot - Ghanaians who have traveled to Libya
to seek for greener pastures had always complained
of maltreatment being meted out to them by the citizens and
state officials of that country.
This is irrespective of the numerous appeal made by the
Ghanaian government to the Libyan authorities to always
treat its citizens with some courtesy even if they had
ran afoul of the law.
Latest to receive harsh punishment from the Libyan
authorities is a Ghanaian citizen in Libya, Mr. Obolo
Boateng, who had been found guilty of murder by a Libyan
court and has been sentenced to death.
Speaking on Peace FM this morning,
Ghana’s
Ambassador to Libya, Mr.
Kwame
Tinkorang confirmed the court’s judgment and explained that
the judgment came after Mr. Boateng was alleged to have
killed his friend in the cause of a fight.
He revealed that, the accused, Obolo Boateng denied the
allegations leveled against him by the Libyan court but it
still went ahead to pass death sentence on him.
The ambassador has however disclosed that the Ghanaian
government will appeal to the Libyan court through their
lawyers to re-visit the case.
