Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, Aug 3, Ghanadot -The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has criticized Vodafone Ghana Limited, saying its decision to lay off 950 employees in a compulsory redundancy programme is contrary to the legal practices of the country’s labour relations.

Mr. Kofi Abraham, General Secretary of the TUC, speaking on Peace FM today, accused the company of not exhausting the legal procedure but  rather using intimidation and compulsion which he described as unfair to the workers.

He promised that the TUC will do it best, as mouth the piece of Ghanaian workers, to ensure the well being of the Vodafone workers.

According to him, management of Vodafone disregarded the laid-down procedures to redundancy by not meeting with the union to discuss it before taking action.

The Chief Management for Corporate Communications of Vodafone, Mr. Isaac Abraham dismissed all the allegations and said the company has done nothing wrong.

He dismissed the TUC position that Vodafone had gone contrary to labour laws. Mr. Abraham disclosed that, the off would be implemented at the end of November 2009.
