Motorbikes banned after 8pm - Police
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, Aug 21, Ghanadot - The Police Administration has cautioned users of motorbikes, following a series of bike-aided crimes across the country,  not to use their motorbikes after 8pm or risk been interrogated as well as getting them impounded.

Police Director of Public Affairs, DSP Kwesi Ofori in an interview on Joy FM said the tendency of criminal activities on motorbikes in the country necessitated the implementation of the directive..

He said, “The rates at which motorbikes are being used to commit robberies have necessitated the directive. Our position is clear and we will pursue it.”

DSP Kwesi Ofori disclosed that to carry out the directive, the police patrol teams may impound motorbikes seen during the prohibited time.

But a private legal practitioner, Abdul Basit, disagreed with the Police, saying by this new directive the police have moved beyond their constitutional and traditional role of enforcing laws to making them, adding that it will be better if the police lobby with Parliament to have that law enacted.

“Law making is not their function. Theirs is to enforce it. To prevent somebody from riding after 8:00pm is rule-making and that is not their function."
