P.C Appiah-Ofori: Mills has shown he is not corrupt
Audrey Agyiri-Inkoom, Ghanadot

Accra, Dec 10, Ghanadot - The New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Paul Collins Appiah-Ofori, has thrown his weight behind President Mills’ amiable character, saying the president has amply demonstrated that he is at variance with corruption.

In an interview on Peace FM, he disclosed that he is not surprised that President J.E.A. Mills is reported to have rejected attempts to bribe him, and he would vouch on the man’s capacity to do so, if only the event took place as reported by Mr. Kwame Pianim, an established politician, economist and businessman.

Mr. Pianim on Monday spoke highly of the president and his capacity to fight corruption, saying Ghana was fortunate to have him as a president who would not steal from the people because he had seen him on two occasions to return ‘envelopes’. The occasion was a Joy FM/Coconut Grove Hotels consensus-building forum dubbed Joy FM Debate 2009.

Appiah-Ofori, noted for his whistle-blowing and no-nonsense stance on corruption, said President Mills’ ability to return to the national coffers, per diem due him on a recent trip to the UK is one solid example of the president’s good character that convinces him that he is not corrupt. He said that singular act is unprecedented in the nation’s history.

Again, when he (PC) blew the alarm over what he claims to be the shoddy sale of majority shares of Ghana Telecom to Vodafone, it took the personal intervention of President Mills to set up a committee to investigate the deal to ensure that the sale was in the best interest of the nation.

According to Appiah-Ofori, another proof is that about four months ago, a high-ranking officer of the government, Brigadier-General Nunoo-Mensah, invited him to the Osu Castle for a meeting lasting over two hours to assist in plans to fight corruption in the country.
