More Metropolitan,
Municipal and District Chief Executives approved

Accra, April 27, Ghanadot - Nominees
for the positions of chief executives of the various
Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs)
in various parts of Ghana received overwhelming endorsement by
their respective assemblies recently.
The MMDCEs were nominated by the President H.E John Evans Atta
Mills in fulfillment of the 1992 constitution to represent the
president at the assemblies and executive government businesses
there.
The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) unanimously confirmed
Robert Kempis Papa Nii Ofosuware as the Chief Executive at well
attended ceremony in Tema, in the Greater Region.
All the 35 assembly members present voted for him, while
Kingsley Kwami Appiah, a teacher of Old Lashibi TMA Primary
School was also elected as the Presiding Member after two rounds
hectic voting.
While at Ledzekuku Krowor Municipal Assembly, the President’s
nominee Daniel Amartey Mensah received the approval of members
to serve the assembly as the Municipal Chief Executive.
Ebenezer Nii Armah Takyi was confirmed as the Municipal Chief
Executive for the Ga West Municipal Assembly.
In the Eastern Region, Sammy Kwabi, Seth Otchere and Abass
Fuseini Sbaabe obtained the majority votes needed for them to
become the District Chief Executives for Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar,
West Akyem and Fanteakwa districts respectively.
Whilst reports from the Garden City West of Africa, Kumasi the
Ashanti Regional capital indicated that the Kumasi Metropolitan
Assembly has confirmed Samuel Sarpong for the position of
Metropolitan Chief Executive, and Nana Kofi Senyah was given the
nod as the Presiding Member of the assembly.
In attendance were the Minister of Youth and Sport, Alhaji
Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka and the Regional Minister, Kofi Opoku-Manu.
The Central Region was not let out in this all important
national assignment. The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly
unanimously approved Anthony Egyir Aikins, the President nominee
for the position of Metropolitan Chief Executive.
For the first time in the history of the assembly, all the 57
members, who were present, voted for Mr. Aikins.
In the Northern Region, the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive
was also confirmed in the course of the week.
Meanwhile, the President John Evans Atta Mills has nominated
additional 10 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief
Executives for confirmation by their respective assemblies and
subsequent appointment.
This is by virtue of section 243(1) of the Local Government Act,
1993, Act 462, according to a press release issued in Accra and
signed by Mr Joseph Yieleh Chireh, Minister of Local Government
and Rural Development.
The nominees for Central Region are; Effutu Municipal, Nii
Ephraim; Agona West, Obeng Forson; KEEA, Veronica Essuman
Nelson.
In the Volta Region, they are South Tongu, Daniel Ametorku; Ketu
North, Heston Moses Azaglo and Ketu South, Bernard Frank Amarble.
Ashanti Region - Afigya Kwabre, Oppong Kyekyeku Kaakyire;
Northern Region—Karaga District, Abdulai Mahammmed Sandow;
Western Region – Jomoro District, Victor Nyianyi Kablah and
Brong Ahafo Region - Nkoranza South, Emmanual Kwadwo Agyekum.
