Sports Minister asked to go on leave
Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot


Accra, June 7, Ghanadot - The President of Ghana, President John Evans Atta Mills has asked Youth and Sports Minister Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak to proceed on leave pending the outcome of investigations into allegations of financial malfeasance made against him by Mr Adim Odoom, an accountant at the ministry.


According to a statement signed by Mr J. K. Bebaako Mensah, Secretary to the President, and issued in Accra, it stated categorically that, "In order to ensure fairness in dealing with the matter, the President has directed that the National Security Co-ordinator should carry out an investigation into the allegations."


The directive urged Alhaji Mubarak to hand over the operations of the ministry to his Deputy, Nii Nortey Dua, who will act in his absence.


Meanwhile, reports have it that the National Security Council Secretariat had taken over investigations into the issue on the directive of the President.
