President Mills must set up committees to probe all ministries

Accra, June 28, Ghanadot - The youth of Ghana are vehemently calling on the President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills as a matter of urgency to set up independent committees to probe all the ministries in the country.

The youth alleged that there are a lot of financial malfeasance, corruption, thievery and other anti-social behaviours characterizing the ministries.

They mentioned the Former Minister of Sport, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak case as a classical example.

The youth poured out this displeasure at the opening of a two day 2nd Pan-African youth summit themed “Positive Reasoning for a Meaningful Change” in Accra, over the weekend.

The summit was organized by the Leaders’ Navigators Group; an Accra based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).

The objectives of the summit included the need to educate the youth on the opportunities and resources in Africa, motivate the youth to team up to undertake business initiatives and inspire and challenge the youth to take responsibility for the positive transformation of Africa.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Golden Future Promotion, Mr. Charles Sam, who was the main speaker, added that the current civil servants are more corrupt than the politicians, saying “most of them are putting up mansions, using lavish cars, among others”.

He argued that for Ghana to attain a middle-income status, national focus must be spotlighted on the younger generation rather than the octogenarians group.

Mr. Sam appealed to Ghanaians not to ever vote for anybody above 50 years old as a president of Ghana and Member of Parliament (MP) because their analog and obsolete generation had gone.

Mr. Sam stressed that “anybody above 50 years old should not be elected as President of the land. Look at the developed world all their leaders are less than 50 years of age and they are performing wonders in their countries and even beyond”.

He indicated that President Mills was above 50 and they did not expect him deliver what the younger generation wants.

Mr. Sam, who is also, media practitioner, used the summit to call on the government to reduce the level of importation of foreign goods and wean itself off from the Breton Wood institutes, namely, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He emphatically stated that the World Bank and the IMF are not development partners but rather business partners.

The CEO decried African leaders for constantly begging for funds from their developed counterparts when all the natural resources are abundantly in Africa.

Mr. Sam appealed to lecturers to desist from harassing young ladies in tertiary institutions, stressing that that act does not augur well for meaningful teaching and learning in the country.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Strategic Youth Network for Development, Mr. Chibeze Ezekiel, who spoke on the topic “Mental Revolution for Development”, hinted that until the youth change their mindsets, thoughts and behaviours they would not see development in Africa.

He called for positive orientations of youth in Africa to enable them contribute their quota to the development of the African continent.

Mr. Ezekiel challenged the youth that “The future prospect of every country can directly be measured by the current prospect of that country”, emphasizing that if the youth in Africa do not take care, 10 years to come, Africa would be colonise again.

In the area of ICT, he noted that Africa is seriously behind the rest of world. When children in Japan, USA and China are using ICT to do wonderful things their African cohorts are using it for “sakawa”-internet fraud.
