Accra, Aug 27, Ghanadot - The New
Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) have named
seven people as suspects in the
brutal Konkomba Market clash in
Accra , where four persons lost
their lives and several people were
injured at the Konkomba Market.
The names mentioned by the MPs were
Sule, Fahana, Awal, Sule Nabia, Abdullah Rasta and Abdullah
Sey who they said
were members of the gang which
murdered the four persons
Another accused was
one Mohammed Ayatu who allegedly butchered a man to death in
an earlier clash. He was
mentioned as one of the group that
led the latest killings.
Minority Leader of Parliament, Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu,
flanked by colleagues MPs at a press conference in Accra
said the culprits were still to to be
found within the vicinity and that the police
should immediately arrest and
prosecute them.
“These are the people that are parading the streets with
impunity. We are providing the leads to the Minister of the
Interior; let them effect the arrest of the people
immediately if they have the securities of the good people
of this country at heart,” he said.
The Minority Leader accused the Interior Minister of gross
inaction in respect of the clashes; a situation he said “is
not in anyway a deterrent to the culprits who are determined
to flout the laws of the country with absolute impunity.”
“This is the clear demonstration of the minister’s
indifference to due process, the rule of law and good
governance,” Mr Mensah-Bonsu said.
He bemoaned the situation where a complainant
by name Prince Kamal Fuseini “is rather being threatened
with arrest,” after reporting an incident to the police.
“The Regional Police Commander has told him that he should
never come to the police station again and that this is not
a matter for the police to investigate, it is a matter for
the NADMO,” he charged.
