I have no preferred candidate in the upcoming NPP Parliamentary primaries -  Nana Akufo-Addo

Monday, February 14, 2011: The 2012 presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo has declared ahead of the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the party that he has no preferred candidate amongst the many parliamentary hopefuls of the party across the country.

“The people’s choice is my choice and I urge all aspirants to go into the election with a good and clean message and I know that the delegates of our party, as they have done consistently, will select the right persons to help us prosecute the agenda of winning 2012” were Nana Addo’s words when he spoke at the Catholic Social Centre, Bolgatanga on Monday as part of a nationwide tour by the leadership of the party to help educate delegates and stakeholders in the upcoming election on the laid down processes and clarify all issues, if any, before the election.

Nana Addo continued that “I have been part of this party for a long time and my relationship with most people in the party goes way back. Many of the party people are my friends and taking a glance around this room, I see many of them. There is therefore a high possibility that some candidates will come around to say that they are my candidates and that I have asked them to come and contest. I wish to set the records straight, here and now, that I have no candidate and I have not sent anybody to come and contest in my name. Treat everybody on their own merits, listen to their message and evaluate their potential and I know that at the end of the day, you would vote for the best candidates”.

Nana Addo also asked party executives at all levels to be fair in the upcoming elections so that after the process, winners and losers can join hands, mobilize their supporters and work hard to ensure victory in the constituency, for both presidential and parliamentary
elections.

He added that “I can confidently tell you that our national Chairman, Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and his team of National officers have no preferred candidate too and are determined on making sure that the process is executed in a free, fair and transparent manner”.

Nana Addo also called on party members “to be courageous and resolute as we move into the 2012 elections so that on election day, what the NPP deserves is what will be declared for us. The NDC have decided to resort to intimidation and violence as the only way to win elections in our country and I call on all of you, NPP people across the length and breadth of our country to stand up to the NDC and not allow them to cheat us in the 2012 elections.”

He continued that “the NPP has always been the party advocating for free, fair and transparent elections and we will continue to do so but we will also not sit down and be cheated by the NDC. In 2012, we will stand up to them and make sure that what is due us will be declared for us.”

The team later moved to the Navrongo campus of the University of Development Studies and met with the TESCON members there.

In a brief address, Nana Addo reiterated that “education is central to the future of our country and therefore we have to rapidly expand the infrastructure for and quality of education at all levels.”

Nana Addo reminded them of his promise to make Senior High education free when God willing hee becomes president adding that “it can be done, it should be done and it has to be done, in our time.”

On his part the MP for Navrongo Central, Hon. Kofi Adda thanked the leadership of the party and the flag bearer for calling on the students.

He emphasized the role that UDS TESCON has played for the party over the years especially during elections and assured the party leadership of the continued support of the students moving into the 2012 elections.

Accompanying Nana Addo on the national tour ahead of the 30th April primaries are all national executives of the party.
