NANA ADDO CALLS FOR DECENT JOBS, DECENT PAY FOR GHANAIANS

The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says his party is committed to a new society of opportunities which will provide good education, good skills, good jobs and good pay to Ghanaians if voted to power in December 2012.

“The NPP is committed to a future of economic transformation and rapid expansion that will create decent work, i.e. decent jobs with decent pay and enhance the dignity of Ghanaian labour,” he stated.

This was carried in his May Day message, in which he extended his party’s “gratitude to all Ghanaian workers, both in the formal and informal sectors, for their enduring hard work and patriotic contribution towards Ghana’s development over the years. “

Nana Addo said Ghana’s workforce was anxious for decent jobs and decent pay and that the NPP had shown through its time in government and will show in its future programmes its commitment to delivering just that for the Ghanaian people.

Recalling his party’s record, Nana Addo said, “2001-2009, the first period of NPP rule in the Fourth Republic, saw a significant, unprecedented expansion of the national economy, which led to higher real wages and more jobs. There is, however, much more to be done. But, it is clear that with the NPP way we can get quickly to greater employment and rapid growth.”

He pointed out, “One of the greatest challenges facing our society today is the absence of jobs for large segments of our youth.”

In his view, greater attention must be given to the private sector, which is key to creating jobs.

He explained, “It is by building a vibrant private sector that sufficient jobs with decent pay can be created. The NPP is determined to forge a partnership with working people and the private sector to achieve this goal so that the concerns of labour for decent work, i.e. good jobs with good pay, strong health and safety regulations can be satisfactorily addressed.”

His message of hope to the “anxious Ghanaian workforce” is, “stay faithful to the Ghanaian enterprise. There is a brighter future ahead of you.”

He further assured, “The NPP is resolute in its commitment to building a new society of opportunities for the Ghanaian people. A new society which will provide good education, good skills, good jobs and good pay. This is the programme that the next NPP government is committed to delivering for the Ghanaian people.”

While saluting Ghanaian workers and wishing them God’s blessing, the NPP flagbearer stressed, “We have all to remember that it is only by the hard work of all of us that we can build the Ghana of our dreams.”
