CORRUPTION, IMPUNITY AND STEALING AT TEMA PORT.
PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE YOUNG PATRIOTS OF
NPP FORUM TO “LET THE PEOPLE KNOW”
Good morning ladies and gentlemen of the Press. We the Young
Patriots of NPP want to bring to the attention of Ghanaians
and government as a whole the corruption; impunity and abuse
of power in the administration / allocation of ceased
vehicles at Tema Port. In 2009, 24 vehicles declared wanted
by Interpol landed at Tema Port. These vehicles were
separated from other vehicles put under custody of the
Golden Jubilee terminal and state car park pending
investigations.
However, before investigations could be completed, a number
of these vehicles were gazetted. The confiscated Vehicles
committee then proceeded to allocate these vehicles to some
individuals. In May 2011, after due investigations have been
completed on the 24 vehicles a decision was reached to
release the vehicles to the original owners.
However, this decision of national security at the port
appeared to not have been complied with. The vehicles were
rather gazetted, i.e. put up for sale by gazette notice No.
13, Friday 10th June 2011. Through this means the rightful
owners have been deprived of their property.
Information given on public radio by one Joseph Bediako, a
known NDC activist and a communicator who once worked at the
golden jubilee terminal, Tema port has thrown light on how
these cars were allocated. According to Mr. Bediako, 5 of
these vehicles were allocated to Mr. Alex Segbefia, Dep.
Chief of staff at the Castle; another 5 have been allocated
to officials of CEPS, the reminding 14 allocated to
officials at the office of the President.
Ladies and gentlemen, there appears to be official
corruption, impunity and abuse of power in the
administration of ceased cars at Tema Port. Ghanaians are
being deprived of their legitimate properties, due process
is being thwarted, and cars are being given to officials and
cronies of this government.
In the light of earlier incidence, involving allocation of
ceased vehicles which led to the removal of Mr. Carl Wilson
from Tema Port by foot soldiers agitation/rampage.
We the Young Patriots call on President Mills’ government to
institute full investigation into the specific issue of
these 24 vehicles with a view to protect the rights of
Ghanaians who have been so cruelly deprived of their
property.
Attached are the letter from the National security and List
of stolen vehicles.
