Akufo-Addo Denies True Statesman Story
The new year has unfortunately begun with yet another lie
from the NDC gutter press about Nana Akufo-Addo. The latest
effusion comes from a paper called “The True Statesman”,
which has a headline in its Tuesday 10th January edition:
“Nana Akufo-Addo’s Mercenaries are in Town”. It purports to
be a report of a meeting allegedly held last Sunday, 8th
January at the Cottage Hotel in Bubuashie, Accra, where the
NPP 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, addressed
“Wounded Lion”, an alleged militant group allegedly from
Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast, on a strategic plot to cause
mayhem in the country before, during and after the 2012
general elections. According to the paper, the Ghana Police
Service is on top of the issue and is monitoring events with
“eagle eyes”. The entire story is a total lie.
Nana Akufo-Addo left Accra on Thursday, 5th January by air (Starbow
16.30 flight) for Kumasi where he spent the night. The
following day, 6th January, he proceeded by road to Prang to
participate in the midday Friday prayers of the Tijaniyya
Muslim faith in their Maulid. He returned to Kumasi the same
day, and spent the entire weekend in Kumasi, attending in
the morning in Effiduase, the one week funeral ceremonies of
the late NPP Chairman of the Effiduase Asokore constituency,
Mr. Afram Agyeman. In the afternoon, he attended with his
wife the funeral of the late Ms. Anastasia Gyasi at the
Kumasi Heroes Park. He returned to Accra on the 17.15
Starbow flight from Kumsai on Sunday 8th January. From the
airport, as his wife went home, he went to visit the former
President of the Republic, H.E. John Agyekum Kufour. He then
went home. He was never at any such meeting in Bubuashie as
alleged, and has no knowledge of any such meeting. He has
indeed never been to any Cottage Hotel in Bubuashie and has
no knowledge of its whereabouts and has no mercenaries,
imaginary or otherwise. The report of the so-called True
Statesman is a gross fabrication.
We are aware of the desperate attempts that are being made
and will be made in NDC circles to implicate Nana Akufo-Addo
in some cooked up plot to justify police action against him.
These attempts will fail. Nana Akufo-Addo will continue to
be what he has always been – a firm believer in peace and
democratic politics, who abhors cheats and bully boys in
that process. He has never been, and will never be involved
in anything that smacks of violence in politics.
It is obvious that, at a time when the full failure of the
Mills-Mahama led NDC government has become evident to all
Ghanaians, the latest incident of this failure being the
infamous Woyomegate, where apparently the colossal sum GH
cedis 92.8 million has been wrongfully paid from public
funds to an undeserving recipient and known NDC financier,
strenuous efforts will be made to blacken the name and
reputation of Nana Akufo-Addo. They will fail.
The Ghanaian people are not the naive people that the NDC
gutter press takes them for. The NPP and its presidential
candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, are going for an outright
victory in this year’s elections and not for any so-called
power-sharing arrangement. This incompetent NDC government
has to be peacefully retired for the sake of the future of
Mother Ghana.
This is for the record.
