Konadu, Spio and others win NDC top positions

Information reaching Ghanadot indicates that, the wife of former President Rawlings, Mrs Konadu Agyemang Rawlings who vied for the position of the vice chairperson of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won convincingly at the party’s 8th National Delegates’ Conference which is still on-going in the Northern regional capital, Tamale. Also to have won the race of the vice chairperson is Dr Spio Gabrah, an NDC stalwart.

Among the six elective positions of the vice chairperson slot of the party, 18 people contested and with the two already known, the remaining four is yet to be declared by the officials of the Electoral Commission.

Also to have received overwhelming endorsement from the delegates attending the congress were Dr Kwabena Adjei and Johnson Asiedu Nketia who vied for the position of National Chairman and general secretary respectively.

Dr Adjei polled 1,749 to deliver a landslide victory against his only contender, Dr Asamoah Tutu who managed only 90 votes. Seven ballots were rejected.

Asiedu Nketia, popularly called General Mosquito, obtained 1,739 to beat his main challenger, Kweku Eshun who polled 116 with three ballots being rejected.

Mr Kofi Adams who is an aide to former President Rawlings emerged as the first deputy general secretary and George Lawson, the second deputy.

For the position of Propaganda Secretary, Richard Quashigah, with 1,270 votes beat his contenders, Bernard K. Allotey and Mustapha Kabila who got 439 and 114 votes respectively.

Mr. Kamel Loshie, with 1501 votes emerged winner of the contest for National Treasurer, beating Adisa Abdul Usif who obtained 351 votes. Two ballots were rejected.
