Stop listening to music while on duty, Police cautioned
By Awudu Salami Sule, Ghanadot

Accra, Sept 1, Ghanadot - It is very common now a days to come across a duty police personnel with walkman or mobile phone in his or her ears listening to music.

Most prominent people with security background in the country have on several occasions spoken against what they called the irresponsible attitude of these police personnel but little had been achieved in terms of changing this attitude.

One of the high profile security officers in the country to have recently expressed grave concern about this attitude of police personnel who choose to listen to music instead of working at their duty post was DCOP Rose Bio Atinga, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander.

The first female police commander in the Greater Accra Region revealed that the good people of Ghana are looking up to the police to deliver in these crucial times.

"But instead of being alert on duty some personnel rather go to their duty points with walkmans and mobile phones in their ears listening to music", adding they cannot afford to disappoint Ghanaians who are looking up to them for security.

The Regional Commander made these remarks when she inspected a parade held in honour of the Inspector General Police, Paul Quaye on August 31 at the forecourt of the Regional Police Headquarters.

DCOP Rose Bio Atinga also expressed worry over the way and manner some police officers dressed. She revealed that some of the police personnel refused to wear the headgear while some of the women carry bags especially polythene ones whilst in uniform.

"To be able to work effectively police officers must eschew all acts that will tarnish the image of the service and we must re-dedicate ourselves to fighting crime in the country especially armed robbery", she advised.
