ER Minister warns MDCEs over school feeding programme
By Awudu Salami Sule, Ghanadot

Accra, Dec 1, Ghanadot - The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has warned all Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the region against meddling with the affairs of the school feeding programme (SFP)which was introduced by the former New Patriotic Party administration.

The school feeding programme has since the coming into office of the National Democratic Congress government in January this year been confronted with an acrimony over who is qualified to be a caterer and who is not and who is to regulate the affairs of the programme.

The Eastern Regional Minister warned the MDCEs in his region to stay away from the programme although he advised them to closely monitor the programme.

"I dont want any municipal and district chief executive to meddle in the affairs of the school feeding programme" he warned, adding the SFP is one of the programme in the assembly system they can easily be trapped for malfeasance.

Mr Ofoso Ampofo who was addressing the MDCEs in Koforidua over the school feeding programme explained that, delegating the programme to someone does not mean as chief executives they should stay off completely but instead, it should be "hand off" but eyes in".

"You have to closely monitor the functionality of the programme because if it succeeds or failed your name will be mentioned", he advised.

He further noted that, it is morally and ethically unacceptable if funds meant to purchase foodstuffs for deprived and malnourished children are misapplied or embezzled for parochial interest.

"I will like to entreat all key district actors of the SFP to take keen interest in the programme by being very vigilant so as to reduce the malfeasance that has bedevilled the programme, he noted.
