Spio-Gabrah faces disciplinary action in NDC
By Awudu Salami Sule

Accra, Nov 2, Ghanadot - On Tuesday October 27, Dr Ekow Spio-Gabrah, the Chief Executive officer of the Common Wealth Telecommunication Organisation and leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced his intention to contest for the 2nd National Vice Chairmanship position in the party's December national delegates conference.

But the General Secretary of the party, Mr Johson Asiedu Nketia said, the party stalwart had gone contrary to the laws of the party.

According to Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, per the constitution of the National Democratic Congress, individuals eyeing to occupy positions as national executives could only declare their intentions after the party has held its constituency and regional elections.

"But the party has not finish electing its officers at the constituency and regional levels and it will be synonymous to fouling the law if anybody should declare his or her intentions to contest any of the national executives position" he explained.

He noted that, Dr Spio-Gabrah has since the formation of the National Democratic Congress become an active member and has held ministerial positions in the erstwhile Rawlings administration and therefore wondered why he (Spio) should ignore the party's constitution and go ahead to declare his intentions.

"Spio-Gabrah is fully aware of the party's constitution and has clearly go against the law", the General Secretary opined.

Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia said, national executive members of the party would meet very soon to decide on the fate of Dr Spio-Gabrah as he had breached the laws of the party.

In another development, the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia has yesterday traveled to London as guest of honour for the election of United Kingdom and Northern Ireland NDC executives.

Before leaving the shores of Ghana yesterday afternoon, the NDC scribe told the media that the party was committed to strengthening its foreign branches and the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland is no exception.
