Government approves new salary structure for teachers –

Gomoa Afranse(C/R), Jan. 14, GNA – Papa Owusu Ankomah,
Minister of Education, Science and Sports on Saturday
announced that Government had approved new salary structure
for teachers.
He did not give details but said Government concluded an
agreement with Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT)
and other associations in the education sector on Friday,
January 12 for implementation this month.
Papa Owusu Ankomah announced this at the installation of
Nana Ogyedom Obrenu Kwesi Atta VI, as Odikro of Gomoa
Afranse in the Central Region.
He said Government treasured and appreciated the dedication
and commitment of teachers and efforts would be made to
ensure their conditions of service were improved.
Papa Owusu Ankomah said the Ministry had given approval for
the construction of a six-classroom block at Gomoa Afranse
to improve the quality education in the town.
He said the Capitation Grant, School Feeding Programme and
the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) instituted by
the Government, were clear manifestation of its
determination to improve the living standards of the people
especially rural dwellers.
The Minister of Education, Science and Sports said
rehabilitation of the Accra-Mallam-Yamoransa Highway to
solve transportation problem in the Central Region would be
ready and handed over to the Government by March.
Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Minister of State for Culture and
Chieftaincy expressed concern about indecent dressing
especially among the youth and appealed to traditional
rulers to institute measures to curb it.
He asked the youth to refrain from imitating foreign
cultures that would alienate them and lead to indiscipline
in the society and concentrate on their education to become
useful citizens in future.
Ms Joyce Aidoo, Gomoa District Chief Executive announced
that rehabilitation of the Gomoa-Afranse-Gomoa-Ankamu road
had been awarded on contract and work would begin soon to
facilitate goods and services.
Nana Atta pledged to institute an educational fund to
support brilliant but needy children in the area.
He called for unity and cooperation among the people to
accelerate socio-economic development.
