Government approves new salary structure for teachers – Owusu Ankomah

Gomoa Afranse(C/R), Jan. 14, GNA – Papa Owusu Ankomah, Minister of Education, Science and Sports on Saturday announced that Government had approved new salary structure for teachers.

He did not give details but said Government concluded an agreement with Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and other associations in the education sector on Friday, January 12 for implementation this month.

Papa Owusu Ankomah announced this at the installation of Nana Ogyedom Obrenu Kwesi Atta VI, as Odikro of Gomoa Afranse in the Central Region.

He said Government treasured and appreciated the dedication and commitment of teachers and efforts would be made to ensure their conditions of service were improved.

Papa Owusu Ankomah said the Ministry had given approval for the construction of a six-classroom block at Gomoa Afranse to improve the quality education in the town.

He said the Capitation Grant, School Feeding Programme and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) instituted by the Government, were clear manifestation of its determination to improve the living standards of the people especially rural dwellers.

The Minister of Education, Science and Sports said rehabilitation of the Accra-Mallam-Yamoransa Highway to solve transportation problem in the Central Region would be ready and handed over to the Government by March.

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Minister of State for Culture and Chieftaincy expressed concern about indecent dressing especially among the youth and appealed to traditional rulers to institute measures to curb it.

He asked the youth to refrain from imitating foreign cultures that would alienate them and lead to indiscipline in the society and concentrate on their education to become useful citizens in future.
Ms Joyce Aidoo, Gomoa District Chief Executive announced that rehabilitation of the Gomoa-Afranse-Gomoa-Ankamu road had been awarded on contract and work would begin soon to facilitate goods and services.

Nana Atta pledged to institute an educational fund to support brilliant but needy children in the area.

He called for unity and cooperation among the people to accelerate socio-economic development.
