National Prayer and Thanksgiving Held
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, Feb 2, Ghanadot - Election 2008 was described by both
politicians and Ghanaians as crucial, but yet again, Ghana
was to emerge, from all the challenges that the election
brought to her, in one piece. The National Prayer and
Thanksgiving Service was to express appreciation to God for
peaceful elections.
The service attracted government appointees, the clergy and
members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Reverend Esatwood Anaba, General Overseer of the Fountain
Gate Chapel said diverse political opinions should not
divide the country.
He called on the younger generation to follow the examples
of Jesus Christ who came to unite humanity with the word of
God, and called on Ghanaians to offer their unflinching
support for President Mills’ administration.
“If the previous generations before us did not make peace,
and did not walk in peace and they didn’t bother to seek the
gospel, we the younger generation have made up our minds
that if my daddy and my uncle don’t flow together, I’m going
to look for my cousin any way. If my dad and mum don’t flow
together, I’m going to look for my brother any way.
“And by the way what is this other one, step brother, step
sister, step mother? Step mother will be mother, sister is sister,
brother is brother and lets take one step forward than using
that word, step”
The president of Ghana, Professor Evans Atta Mills said the
country’s development agenda will be in vain if God is
downgraded to the background.
He projected that the last Friday of every year will be for
national prayers and thanksgiving for the Muslim communities
whiles the first Sunday of February every year will be
observed as such by the Christian community.
“We are all God’s creation, we have a single father that is
the almighty God, let us all turn to him my brothers and
sisters as the children of God and insure that we apply
God’s principles which he has set up for us in his holy
book; honesty, transparency, hard work and love for one
another, these are the holy virtues and policies that we
need to build a strong and viable nation.
“I am grateful that we have all responded positively and I
know that the love of God is working in us and the good lord
will always listen to our prayers”
President Mills commended Ghanaians and the security
agencies for the diverse role they played during the
elections.
“We need to commend one another for the various roles we
played in ensuring peaceful elections, whether as a voter,
as a person who was connected with the elections, as a
member of the Electoral Commission, as an electoral
observer, you all played your part and this has cemented
Ghana’s enviable reputation as a bastion of democracy”.
