Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, Feb 3, Ghanadot - The former Minister of Health, Major Rtd Courage Quashigah has stated that most deaths in the country could be avoided if Ghanaians will learn to eat to live rather than live to eat. Major Rtd Quashigah who was speaking at the first anniversary of the of the programme “Issues of Life, Healthy Cooking, for Health Living”, reiterated that to maintain health, one must follow certain requirements and guidelines as far as food intake is concerned.

“We must make sure that there is adquate and balanced nutrients are priority in our meals, we must also check that there are sufficient calories in order to supply us with the energy we need to move through our daily tasks. We must also try to incorporate a greater variety of the many foods that are available to us”.

Touching on the cooking environment, Mr. Quashigah appealed to women to keep their cooking utensils clean, stressing that the hands must be washed regularly in order to protect us from contracting diseases.

The former Minister of Health disclosed that in recent decades, they have seen an enormous rise in the incidence of Altheimers disease which he said is as a result of the presence of aluminium cookware that we use in preparing food.

In her presentation, Mrs. YvonneNduom, the wife of the flag bearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) of the just ended elections, said it is always vital to eat properly, taking into consideration the quantity and the dose.

She hinted on the utensils saying that when aluminium is heated and used for food preparation, tiny flecks of the metal will be scraped from the pot’s walls by the spoons and forks, and that become lodged in the food being cooked which brings about ingested during the course of the our meal.
