KATH's Department of Urology receives
first uro-dynamic equipment
Kumasi, Feb 10, GNA - The International Volunteers Urology (IVU),
a team of urologists based in United States currently
performing genito-urinary reconstructive surgeries on
children at KATH, has donated one Uro-flow meter, an
equipment for measurement of urine flow before and after
operations to the hospital's Department of Urology.
The equipment worth about 31,000 dollars has a telescope,
paediatric cystocope and an artificial sphincter and would
facilitate surgical procedures in bladder and other urinary
disorders.
The donation forms part of a five-day genito urinary
reconstructive surgery being performed by the visiting
seven-member team of doctors and nurses on 40 children born
with such abnormalities.
Presenting the equipment at KATH Dr Hlep Nguyen, Head of the
team and consultant urologists, said the group felt touched
by the plight of African children born with malformed
organs.
Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Chief Executive of KATH who received
the gift, thanked the IVU for being of such tremendous
assistance to the hospital in terms of free surgery and the
donation.
He expressed satisfaction that the three-year collaboration
between the KATH and IVU has been very fruitful and
beneficial especially to KATH.
