President Kufuor commended for comportment
Winneba (C/R), Feb. 12, GNA - The University of Education,
Winneba, branch of the Tertiary Institutions Students
Confederation (TESCOM) has praised President John Agyekum
Kufuor for his comportment during the recent National
People's Assembly at Sunyani.
TESCOM also congratulated the President for his selection as
the Chairman of the African Union (AU).
Making the commendation at Winneba last Friday, Mr. Samuel
K. Okyere, branch Chairman of TESCOM, noted that had it not
been for President Kufuor's comportment, the National
People's Assembly could have turned into "a different
ballroom game".
TESCOM was not happy about what it described as "the
irresponsible manner some of the participants posed their
equally provocative questions to President Kufuor", adding
that the fatherly spirit displayed won the President and the
NPP Government an excellent political point that would go
down in the country's political history for many years to
come.
On President Kufuor's selection as AU Chairman, the second
Ghanaian after the first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame
Nkrumah, TESCOM simple described the appointment as
"wonderful" and called for support and co-operation to
enable President Kufuor to render credible service to the AU
and Africans.
The organisation also appealed to AU member countries to
"back President Kufuor with their hearts, mutual
understanding, commitment and hard work" to make the
continent safer and the most peaceful community in the World
devoid of civil wars, which had impeded Africa's
socio-economic and cultural emancipation and effective
development.
Mr. Okyere asked Ghanaians, irrespective of their political,
ethnic and religious affiliations, to co-operate with the
Government and to contribute ideas and suggestions for the
successful celebration of the country's 50th Independence
anniversary, next month.
He charged Ghanaians to display a sense of commitment,
patriotism and devotion to the goals and aspirations of the
country, by actively participating in all cleanup exercises
and other programmes towards the Golden Jubilee celebration.
