Let us
support President Kufuor to promote peace—Fugah
Kumasi, June 2, Ghanadot/GNA– A
traditional ruler has called on Ghanaians to rally behind
President Kufuor in his effort to promote peace and unity
among Ghanaians.
Torbuiga Mawufe-Ame Fugah, Ewe-dunua of Ashanti and Brong
Ahafo regions, who made the call, said there was the need
for President Kufuor to strengthen the peace and unity in
the country before he left office.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on
reactions by some NPP supporters on the nomination of
Professor Evans Atta-Mills for a state award by President
Kufuor, Togbe Fugah, pointed out that the conferment of an
award by a sitting President for an opposition leader was “a
designed plan and wisdom from God to use the two persons to
bring total unity in the country”.
He said as the father of the nation, President Kufuor had to
defend the nation by honouring what is right and just,
adding that, the appropriate time was now since he was
preparing to leave office.
Togbe Fugah, said President Kufuor was establishing a
political monument, which needed the sacrifices of all
Ghanaians, especially NPP supporters, to succeed.
“There should be tolerance by all, especially NPP supporters
for the President to unite the nation and the people”, he
stressed.
Togbe Fugah said the President’s decision to honour
Professor Mills would be written boldly in the country’s
political history as the one who brought lasting unity and
peace to the country.
