C/R Convention People’s Party members
not happy with attacks on Dr Nduom
Cape Coast, June 20, Ghanadot/GNA
- The Central Regional Steering Committee members of the
Convention People’s Party (CPP) on Friday expressed concern
about the recent attacks on the party’s flag bearer, Dr. Paa
Kwesi Nduom for
no substantial reasons by some stalwarts of the CPP.
The members who expressed the concern in a press release
issued in Cape Coast and signed by the Regional Secretary,
Mr Kofi Aganu-Luvo, said the issues raised against Dr. Nduom
were brought up before the National Executive Council (NEC)
meeting held in Kumasi in December 2007 and was duly
settled.
The statement pointed out that the party has a constitution
and all members must play by it, stressing that Dr. Nduom
was appointed a Minister in 2001 in President Kufuor’s
administration and appeared before the Parliamentary vetting
committee and was cleared and that the party’s vetting
committee also cleared him.
It however, stressed that, the case was again brought up at
the National Delegates Congress in Kumasi by Mr. Bright
Akwetey , Mr. F. Jantuah and others and the NEC voted on it
on December 16, 2007 and Dr. Nduom won 38 votes against 16
and the NEC therefore decided to allow Dr Nduom to contest
the flag bearer race.
“ The Steering Committee in the Central Region now begins to
wonder whether these people are committed members of the
party and if they claim they are, they should be aware that
as elders and leading members of the party they are to
safeguard the party’s constitution but not to violate or
break it.”
It said their actions and utterances point to nothing short
but to the fact that they want to use devious means to
derail Dr. Nduom’s campaign which is on course and also to
sabotage the party in general and stressed that the
delegates elected Dr Nduom on merit and had been able to
organize all the 230 constituencies in the country.
“Due to Dr. Nduom’s abilities and capabilities the party is
gaining strength day after day. If therefore, they feel they
are not at home with Dr Nduom being the flag bearer of the
CPP they can call it a quit; they have exposed themselves,
party sympathizers and even opponents see them as
“traitors”.
The committee in this regard suggested to the group against
Dr. Nduom to apologize to the flag bearer, the party echelon
and the CPP and endeavour to change their attitude and
minds, because come January 2009 Dr. Nduom and the CPP would
occupy the new flagstaff house as the president of the
Republic of Ghana.
