PNC commended for selecting female
running mate
Accra, Oct. 17, Ghanadot/GNA - The University of Ghana
Branch of the Tertiary Institutions Functionaries (TERIF),
on Thursday commended the People’s National Convention
(PNC), for nominating Miss Petra Maria Amegashie as a
running mate in Election 2008.
A statement signed by Mr. James Adongo, president of TERIF,
said” the nomination of Miss Amegashie has further proven
beyond reasonable doubts that the PNC was the only party
that is gender sensitive and above all recognises the
immense role that Ghanaian women can play in the
Socio-political landscape”.
It said by the nomination, the PNC has brought a new dawn
into the country’s politics and was charting a good course
for the realisation of its objectives to ensure youth
empowerment, economic prosperity and independence.
The statement appealed to the
electorate to vote for Dr. Edward Mahama, flag bearer of the
party on 7 December to enable him implement the party’s
manifesto.
It urged the youth to desist from acts that could denigrate
cultures and inflame passions during the elections.
“Tribalism and ethnicity which are gradually but surely
creeping into our daily lives should not be allowed to
thrive and affect our political and democratic thinking but
rather we should consider ourselves as one people with a
common destiny”, according to the statement.
It urged the youth to read the
manifesto of all the political parties in order to make
informed decisions.
The statement advised the media to avoid sensationalism in
its reportage in order not to misinform the public and cause
unnecessary panic.
