University graduates urged to offer meaningful services
to society
Kumasi, Nov. 1, Ghanadot/GNA
– Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional
Minister, has advised University graduates to use knowledge
and skills acquired to offer meaningful services to society.
He said education could only be significant if it brought
peace, prosperity and development to the people.
Mr. Owusu-Ansah gave the advice at the 4th congregation of
the College of Technology Education Kumasi of the University
of Education, Winneba, in Kumasi on Saturday.
The University awarded 2,500 graduates from the faculties of
Business Education, Vocational and Technical Education and
the Institute of Education Development and Extension with
Bachelor’s degrees, diplomats and certificates.
Mr Owusu-Ansah praised the University authorities for
initiating programmes which had helped to increase enrolment
and improved academic work at the University.
He said government was committed to improving education and
the welfare of teachers and urged the graduates to also work
hard to improve education in the country.
Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, Vice Chancellor of the
University, said since its inception, the University had
implemented dynamic, educative and instructive curricula to
improve the country’s educational system.
He, however, said this should be backed by massive
infrastructural and mentioned inadequate teaching and
learning facilities, inadequate staff and faculties.
Professor Asabere-Ameyaw also cited inadequate accommodation
for both staff and students and the dwindling funding from
the government.
He commended the Getfund Secretariat for assisting the
University to provide lecture halls, staff bungalows, halls
of residence and the construction of five-storey faculty
block for the College of Technology Education.
Professor Asabere-Ameyaw advised the graduates to be good
ambassadors to uplift the image of the University.
Professor Steve Sobotie, Principal of the College, called on
old students from the University to join the alumni to
contribute towards the development of the College.
