Christians should stand up for Christ- Moderator
Accra, Nov. 2, Ghanadot/GNA-
Christians have been urged to be bold enough to stand up
against anything which sought to drag the name and image of
Christ and the religion into disrepute.
"Christians who form about 70 percent of the total
population of the country must defend the tenets of Christ
and eschew all negative tendencies", said Right Reverend Dr.
Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of
Ghana.
Addressing the congregation of Abeka Presbyterian Church on
Sunday on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, he urged
Christians to cloth themselves with the armour of God, which
includes righteousness, truthfulness, prayerfulness and
steadfastness in order to withstand all the evil
machinations of the devil.
He noted that there was no problem that Christians could not
overcome if they would put on the amour of God, which
included righteousness, truthfulness and steadfastness.
He urged them to propagate the message of peace in all their
doings and invite Christ, who is the Prince of Peace to come
and steer the affairs of the nations.
The Moderator appealed to the church and the Christian
Council to be focused in all that they did for Christ and
sow the seed of love, understanding, peace and harmony in
the country.
Rev. Frimpong-Manso urged the congregation to use the
anniversary to reflect on the past record of the church,
identify new directions and most importantly
wake up to the challenges facing the Church and the nation
today.
He called on Christians to also seek Christ as
the solution to all problems and not look elsewhere when
trouble rears its ugly head.
He appealed to them not to become complacent by any
achievement of the church but rather strive on to achieve
more and eschew gossiping, nagging, unnecessary argument,
which were not profitable in anyway.
He called on Christians to make sure they, not only vote on
December 7 which falls on Sunday, but also go to church as
well.
Giving a brief background of the Church, Reverend Colonel
Eugene Sintim (rtd) Minister in-charge of Abeka Presby
explained that the Church was established in accordance with
the expansion programme of the Presbyterian Church to
propagate the gospel wherever human beings dwelled.
"From a humble beginning on a veranda at Mr. C.K.Ankomah's
house with only 16 members forty years ago, we now have
about 1,500 membership and we are still growing.”
He paid glowing tribute to Mr. Samuel Ntim Kwafo (deceased)
and his aged wife Mrs. Juliana Kwafo for being the main
brains behind the establishment of Abeka Presbyterian
Church.
The service which was under the theme; "Put on the Armour of
God" also saw the awarding of members and individuals who
had contributed towards the growth of the church since its
inception.
