Cocoa Farmers honoured at Bogoso

Tarkwa (W/R) Nov. 24-GNA- 49 Cocoa Farmers in the Bogoso district of Producing Buying Company (PBC) has been awarded for their meritorious performances in the 2006/2007 cocoa season.

Out of the number, a farmer at Kutukrom near Prestea, Opayin Yaw Egyiri was adjudged the best. For his prize he received radio with CD player, a pair of Wellinton boot, solar touch light and two cutlasses.
Mr. J.A.Achare of Ehyireso came second and Mr Joseph Tetteh of Gambia took the third position.

Mr. Anthony Osei Boakye, Managing Director of PBC, in a speech read on his behalf by the Western Regional marketing and trafficking officer, Mr Kwabena Dankwa pledged quality service to farmers in respect of proper records keeping and prompt payment of cocoa.
He said PBC is arranging with some banks for farmers to access car loans.

The Bogoso district manager of PBC, Mr. Antwi Boasiakoh advised cocoa farmers to remain loyal to PBC to avoid being defrauded by some individual buyers, adding that loyal farmers would not be left out in any PBC farmers' initiatives.

Mr Samuel Sey the Wassa West district extension officer of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in-charge of cocoa production urged all farmers to seek agricultural advice before they embark on any spraying exercise.

Mr Samuel Anum Adjatey, the immediate past best farmer, who chaired the occasion appealed to government for access road to cocoa growing areas, incentives to encourage women in cocoa farming and also bring back the high-tech fertilizer to farmers.
